Tug Toys for small dogs aren’t easy to find. Especially for dogs under 10 pounds! The other problem is they can be really expensive and if your dog won’t play with the toy its a big waste of money.
Tug toys are great for playing games with your dog. They are also great if you have multiple dogs that play together. Most importantly tug toys are great training tools!
My little poodles aren’t super toy driven. I have been going thru new training course and the instructor is really big on increasing value in toys to use as a reward in training. I totally see the reason for this! Since I’ve been working with my poodles on tug toy drive, its been really great! Using a game of tug as a reward instead of always using food makes the food rewards even more valuable for a dog that’s more food driven.
Finding tug toy for small dogs was my biggest challenge though. One that wouldn’t break the bank and one they would actually tug!
DIY Dog Toys
This brings me to DIY dog toys! I searched, made a few and still couldn’t find anything my poodles liked. I started really looking at the instructors tug toys. I looked up the sites she recommended but I didn’t want to spend $20 or more on a toy they might not like and honestly just looked to big for their little mouths! So I decided to just get creative and come up with something similar. Here is a video of the toys I came up with and what my poodles thought of them!

If you’re not into DIY toys there are a few options I’ve found that won’t break the bank AND the poodles like! Dollar tree cat toys with the fox tails are great! The crinkle no stuffing toys are winners too. They aren’t as exciting as my DIY dog toys but depending on your dogs drive they might work out!
